Art Program Highlights – Fall 2021
Check out the fun our Art Program is producing with Ms. Sari!
Following Pinwheels for Peace, our primary and lower elementary students began celebrating the DOT. Popularized by Peter Reynolds’ book called “The Dot”, International Dot Day is celebrated by art programs all over the world.
Our upper elementary students began a study of the linear ladder method of coloring. Additionally they focused on the benefit of black outline and proportion. They created a lighthouse landscape inspired by artist Edward Hopper.
Our middle school students were able to choose an art studio elective this past specials period. They completed works of “Self-Portait Play Including Clay” and worked a-la Roy Lichtenstein on a pop-art piece with Ben-Day dots, sharpies, and oil-based colored pencils.
Ms. Sari points out that there are many great ways to speak with your child about their artwork to help foster independence and strengthen their confidence:
“Engaging students in discussions about their art work is less about evaluating their ideas and more about focusing on their experience.
Instead of saying “What is it?” (because it may not be a thing)… Try “Tell me about your artwork!”
Instead of “It’s so beautiful!”… Try noticing something about their work, like “Your repeating lines really catch my eye!”
Instead of “That’s a cool idea”… Try, “How did you do that?”
Thank you for sharing Ms. Sari!
